Kansas State Moves Up to Third in the BCS Standings

Updated: Sun 8:34 PM, Mar 17, 2013

After Kansas State's impressive 55-14 victory at West Virginia, the Wildcats have jumped Oregon into the No. 3 slot in the BCS rankings just behind No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Florida.

The hotly-contested position is likely to produce the second participant in the BCS National Championship game in Miami in January because if Alabama and Florida continue to win, they will meet up in the SEC Championship game. With one team guaranteed to lose, the third-ranked team will likely become No. 2 during the BCS Bowl Selection Show.

While the Wildcats can enjoy the position at the moment, Oregon will have a good chance to take the No.3 spot back from Kansas State, even if the Wildcats do not lose a game. Oregon's schedule presents challenges against No. 9 USC, No. 17 Stanford, and No. 8 Oregon State, while No. 14 Texas Tech and No. 23 Texas are the only remaining teams on K-State's schedule which are currently ranked.

Once the computers which dictate a portion of the BCS rankings take Oregon's upcoming strength of schedule into consideration, and the Ducks continue to win, Oregon will be the favorite for the BCS National Championship Game.
