Drake needed three overtimes to eventually pull away from a Shocker team which trailed in each of the three extra periods.

Wichita State led by three on a Toure Murry jumper with 1:30 remaining in regulation, but the Bulldogs clawed back on a free throw, followed by a Kraidon Woods lay up with :02 to play.

The 63-63 scuffle spilled into an extra five minutes that saw Murry account for 5 of WSU's 7 points, while Drake countered at the free throw line. All 7 points came from the charity stripe for the Bulldogs, 5 from Rayvonte Rice, to force another extra session.

Drake scored the first six points in the second OT period, but the Shockers countered with 9-3 run to tie it at 79-79 with :49 remaining. Kurt Alexander converted his only 3 point attempt for 3 of his 17 points coming off the bench. But with under ten seconds to go, Ben Smith answered from downtown and Rice missed a potential game-winner to force the deciding third overtime.

Tied at 82-82, the Bulldogs started on a 5-0 run before Ragland connected on two free throws. But Drake extended the lead to 6 on a jumper from Alexander after Garrett Stutz fouled out of the game.

The Shockers seemed determined to feed the shot attempts to David Kyles in the final minutes, but Kyles came up empty on four tries, two from 3 point land, and Drake protected its home court with a 93-86 win.

Wichita State is now 9-2 in Missouri Valley play. Drake moves to 6-5. The Shockers will visit Missouri State on Wednesday. The Bears defeated the new sole leader of the MVC, Creighton (10-1), in Omaha on December 28th.
