It's a dream come true for any athlete to get a chance to represent their country. But two Wichita boys have a chance to represent much more.
12-year old Alejandro Jeronimo and his 8-year old brother Angel will be competing in the International Speed Skating Championships this weekend in France.
"There are a lot of competitive skaters but they're not going to be as dedicated as us because we have something to skate for," Alejandro said at Roller City on South Meridian Avenue in Wichita.
The two brothers are carrying with them the memory of their teacher, Beth Adamson, who passed away in a car accident last September.
"It's hard to fathom," said the boys' mother, Candida. "The pain, the emotions, the sense of absolute loss and emptiness."
"I went downstairs to my room (after I found out) and stayed in there all night. I didn't eat anything. It was really sad for me," said Alejandro.
Alejandro and Angel are two of many students who have been truly impacted by a teacher. Their only hope is to make an impact of their own for Mrs. Adamson.
"We want her to be proud of us because she taught us so much. That's why we are dedicating all of our races to you, Mrs. Adamson," Alejandro said, speaking to his former teacher.
"I hope you're proud of us."
