DETROIT (AP) -- The Detroit Tigers kept their faint playoff hopes
alive, rallying to beat Kansas City 5-4.
Brandon Inge (ihnj) hit the go-ahead, two-run single in the
Detroit began the day trailing the Yankees by five and a-half
games in the wild-card race and Cleveland by seven and a-half games
in the AL Central.
Tim Byrdak pitched four innings of hitless relief for the win.
The loss went to Leo Nunez. Todd Jones finished for his 38th save.
Sean Casey homered for the Tigers and Jason Smith went deep for
Detroit's Ivan Rodriguez caught his 2,056th game, tying Gary
Carter for third on the all-time list.
