KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Detroit Tigers are four and a-half
games behind first-place Cleveland in the AL Central following a
5-0 loss at Kansas City.
The Royals did all the scoring in the first inning. Esteban
German put the Royals ahead with an RBI single before scoring on
Mark Grudzielanek (gruh-zuh-LAH'-neks) single. Alex Gordon added a
RBI single and Tony Pena followed with a two-run single to cap the
scoring.
Tigers starter Andrew Miller lasted just two-thirds of an
inning, charged with all five runs on five hits and two walks.
Miller is 5-and-5.
Rookie Ryan Braun picked up the victory in relief of Zack
Greinke (GREHN'-kee), who gave up five hits over four innings in
his second strong outing since rejoining the rotation. Braun is
2-and-0 after yielding two hits over two and two-thirds.
David Riske (RIS'-kee) pitched the final two and a-third for his
fourth save.
