MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State added to its stellar men’s basketball recruiting class on Tuesday, as head coach Frank Martin announced the signing of high school forward Ron Anderson (The McCallie (Tenn.) School; Upper Marlboro, Md.) to a financial aid agreement.

Anderson joins a recruiting class that has already been judged by several analysts as the nation’s best and includes consensus No. 1 high school recruit Michael Beasley (Notre Dame (Mass.) Prep/ Washington, D.C.), Fred Brown (Dwyer High/West Palm Beach, Fla.), Andre Gilbert (Mount San Jacinto (Calif.) College; Brooklyn Park, Minn.), Jacob Pullen (Proviso East/Maywood, Ill.) and Dominique Sutton (The Patterson School/Durham, N.C.).

“We are excited about the addition of Ron to our basketball program,” said Martin. “He will provide us with an option to score the ball from the low post. In addition, he has a very good understanding of how to play the game with his back to the basket. He is a very young player, but very mature for his age and will be an excellent addition to an already stellar recruiting class for the coming season.”

A 6-foot-8, 245-pound forward from Upper Marlboro, Md., Anderson comes to Kansas State after playing at The McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tenn., for head coach Dan Wadley. He helped the Blue Tornado to a school-record 24-5 overall record and an appearance in the semifinals of the Division II State Tournament. Anderson averaged 15.1 points, 11.6 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in 22 games for the East Region champions. He was twice named to the state all-tournament team as well as to the East All-Region and Division II All-State team by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association as a senior. Anderson was also named to the Best of the Preps’ second team by the Chattanooga Times-Free Press. In addition, he was the most valuable player of the Pre-Game Academy Roundball Classic All-Star game in March, where he collected 24 points and 22 rebounds.

Anderson is the son of retired NBA player Ron Anderson, Sr., who played 10 seasons (1984-94) in the league for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets and Washington Bullets before playing professionally in France and Israel. Anderson, Sr., was the Cavaliers’ second round selection in the 1984 NBA Draft out of Fresno State.

Martin also announced that incoming freshman forward Jamar Samuels has not met academic requirements and will not be at Kansas State at this time.

With the addition of Ron Anderson, Kansas State now has the NCAA-maximum 13 scholarship players on its roster for the 2007-08 season.
