Buddy Bell will step down as the Kansas City Royals' manager at the end of the season. Bell announced the decision before today's game against the Minnesota Twins.

Bell says he will remain for the rest of this season and join the Royals' front office in 2008 as an adviser to general manager
Dayton Moore.

Bell turns 55 this month, and he says health concerns played a role in his decision. Last year he had surgery to remove a cancerous growth in his throat.

Before becoming the Royals' manager two years ago, Bell managed the Detroit Tigers from 1996 to 1998 and the Colorado Rockies from 2000 to 2002.
