Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen is
ready for the season to start after his four-game suspension for
repeated DUI arrests was cut in half.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell saluted Allen's vow to clean up
his act in reducing the suspension earlier this month.

Now, the 6-6, 270-pounder will only miss the first two games,
road tests at Houston and Chicago. He'll make his return in the
September 23rd home opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

Getting docked four games would have cost Allen about
500-thousand dollars. It also would have meant that rookie Turk
McBride would have been asked to shoulder a bigger load in his
first few games as a pro than the Chiefs would want.

Allen says he's ecstatic. He says he can go through training
camp with his teammates and really feel like he's getting ready to
play.
