Rumors tonight about the future of professional baseball in Wichita are intensifying. There may soon be a replacement for the Wranglers.
Three different groups have put forth proposals to the City of Wichita for a new baseball team after the Wranglers announced their move to Northwest Arkansas. Now it appears the city will make it's choice.
The group headed up by the Wichita Thunder hockey team wants to bring an American Association team to Wichita, and a source close to the city council says that the council intends to vote in favor of negotiating with the Thunder management at a meeting next week. Thunder management, however, says they haven't been notified about any of this.
The American Association is an independent league, meaning it's clubs are not affiliated with major league baseball. Other nearby teams in the American Association include Lincoln, Nebraska and Fort Worth, Texas.
