The Kansas City Chiefs opened training
camp yesterday without Pro Bowl running back Larry Johnson but with
former Pro Bowler Priest Edwards expected today.
Departures from last year's team include quarterback Trent
Green, guard Will Shields, return specialist Dante Hall and place
kicker Lawrence Tynes.
Left guard Brian Waters and center Casey Wiegmann are the only
starters left from the great lines of recent years. John Welbourn
is moving from tackle to take over for Shields.
Holmes has been out of football for 21 months since suffering
neck and head injuries.
Coach Herm Edwards kicked off camp today by running all 88
players through what he called a "test" -- a series of runs
designed to pinpoint players who had not kept themselves in shape.
