KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Jorge De La Rosa combined with two
relievers on a six-hitter as Kansas City blanked the New York
Yankees 7-to-0, ending the Bombers' six-game winning streak.
De La Rosa allowed the six hits over five and a-third and
improved to 8-and-10. He also avoided giving up Alex Rodriguez's
500th career homer, just over two years after serving up his 400th.
Rodriguez went 0-for-2 with a walk as he chases the milestone.
Alex Gordon scored three times and fell a single shy of the
cycle. David DeJesus and Tony Pena Junior drove in two runs apiece
as the Royals avoided a four-game sweep.
The Royals reached Kei Igawa (ih-GAH'-wah) for five runs and
seven hits in five and two-thirds. Igawa is 2-and-3 with a
six-point-79 E-R-A.
The Yankees lost for only the third time in their last 14 games,
leaving them seven and a-half games behind first-place Boston in
the A-L East. New York still trails the wild card-leading Cleveland
Indians by four and a-half games.
