KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Kansas City Royals released
right-handed pitcher Scott Elarton today.
Elarton was the Royals' opening-day starter in 2006 but never
regained his form after shoulder surgery last season.
Elarton is in the second year of a two-year, eight (m) million
dollar contract. He came off the disabled list after sitting out 26
games with a sprained right foot.
He lasted only one and two-thirds innings against the Yankees
last night, giving up seven runs and six hits.
His E-R-A this season is ten-point-46 with a 2-and-4 record.
Elarton was expected to start Sunday against Texas. Manager
Buddy Bell says right-hander Leo Nunez likely will be recalled from
Triple-A Omaha to make the start.
