KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Eddie Johnson of the Kansas City Wizards
has turned down a trade to Derby of England's Premier League.
Johnson is Major League Soccer's leading scorer.
Derby won promotion to the Premier League this past season,
after being relegated from England's top division following the
2001-02 season.
Wizards' technical director Peter Vermes says Johnson's decision
to stay says a lot about the league and the Wizards.
The 23-year-old forward is the first U-S player to score eight
goals in his first eight international games. He has 12 goals in
eleven games for the Wizards.
