University of Missouri basketball player DeMarre Carroll is recovering from a gunshot wound in his ankle after a disturbance outside a Columbia nightclub.

The 20-year-old junior forward is a highly regarded transfer and nephew of Missouri men's basketball coach Mike Anderson.

An MU spokesman says Carroll was treated and released from a local hospital after the shooting early yesterday.

A second victim was shot in the side outside the Tropicana Bar. Police said that injuries to the 23-year-old man did not appear life threatening.

Police say the shooting followed an argument among nightclub
employees, customers and people outside the club. Anderson called
the shooting "a scary situation."

Carroll transferred from Vanderbilt, where he averaged just under eleven points and 6-point-4 rebounds in 29 games during the 2005-06 season.

He is expected to be a leading contributor for Missouri in the upcoming season, his first with the Tigers.
