Sweeney undergoes successful surgery

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Kansas City Royals say Mike
Sweeney's knee surgery is a success -- but they don't know when he
will be back.
Sweeney had the arthroscopic procedure on his right knee today.
Before the surgery, the team said he could be out from two to six
weeks.
Sweeney went on the disabled list, retroactive to June 18th,
with right knee inflammation.
He is in the final year of a five-year, 55- (m) million dollar
contract.
Before the surgery, he had hoped to return to the lineup this
week. Sweeney will meet tomorrow with Dr. Steve Joyce, the team
physician who performed the surgery.
