SEATTLE (AP) -- Seattle Mariners manager Mike Hargrove has
resigned and will manage his final game with the team this
afternoon.
The club says bench coach John McLaren will take over as the
team's manager tomorrow against Kansas City.
Hargrove says his passion for baseball has "begun to fade"
even though his team is the hottest club in the majors. The
Mariners have won seven straight and entered today only four games
behind the A-L West-leading Los Angeles Angels.
The 57-year-old Hargrove was hired as the Mariners' skipper in
October of 2004 and was in his third season on the job.
The Mariners are 44-and-33 this season.
Hargrove was in his 16th season as a manager. He led Cleveland
to the World Series in 1995 and '97. He also had six consecutive
losing seasons in Baltimore and Seattle before the Mariners'
surprising surge this year.
