KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Kansas City Royals had two players
leave tonight's game against St. Louis with apparent injuries.
Reliever Brandon Duckworth left after throwing just two pitches,
and designated hitter Mike Sweeney was replaced after stumbling and
falling while running to first on a routine groundout.
Duckworth relieved starter Odalis Perez with two on and no outs
in the fourth inning. He left without officially facing a batter.
Duckworth gave way to Joel Peralta with an 0-and-2 count on Juan
Encarnacion. The Royals said he had tightness in his rib cage and
will have an M-R-I tomorrow.
The Royals say Sweeney had tightness in his lower back and will
be day-to-day.
