KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Kansas City Royals took Mike
Moustakas, a power-hitting high school shortstop from California,
with the overall number two pick today in the baseball draft.
Moustakas is six-feet tall and weighs 195 pounds. He hit .577
with 24 home runs for Chatsworth High School and was named the Los
Angeles City player of the year.
His fastball has been clocked at 97 miles per hour. But the
Royals said they have no intention of playing him anywhere but
shortstop.
Moustakas was taken right after Tampa selected Valderbilt
pitcher David Price as the top pick.
