Royals 3 Athletics 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Mike Sweeney hit a tiebreaking solo
homer in the eighth inning and the Kansas City Royals beat the
Oakland Athletics 3-to-2 to end their four-game losing streak.
Jimmy Gobble pitched the eighth for the win. He's 1-and-1.
Rookie Joakim Soria worked the ninth for his sixth save in seven
opportunities.
Oakland's Dan Haren and Kansas City's Gil Meche entered ranked
first and third in the A-L in earned run averages and pitched well,
but neither was involved in the decision.
