Caught on Tape: Coach Hits Umpire

Video will be available shortly.

5-2-07 - A high school baseball coach in North Carolina Bergin Tatham was given a two game suspension after a Friday night incident where the umpire tossed him out of a game in the seventh inning.

The argument between Tatham and the umpire, Russell Hall, escalated when Tatham hit Hall - who was still wearing his mask - in the head.

A television station was covering the game and the incident was caught on tape.

Before Tatham's resignation, the N.C. High School Athletic Association was prepared to impose a one-year suspension from coaching. The coach has since said he does not regret striking the umpire.

Tatham’s team went on to lose the game, five to four.
