SPRINGDALE, Ark. (AP) -- The Texas League team now known as the
Wichita Wranglers will become the Arkansas Naturals when it begins
play in northwest Arkansas.
Springdale is building a new baseball to accommodate the team,
expected to begin play in April 2008. For the upcoming Double-A
season, the team will remain the Wranglers and play at Wichita.
General manager Eric Edelstein announced selection of the team's
new name at a news conference. He said the process including two
rounds of Internet voting, in-person surveys, and polling by telephone.
The name is a play on the Arkansas nickname of "the Natural State" and the 1984 movie starring Robert Redford, "The Natural." It won 33 percent of the Internet vote. Next was the Thunder Chickens.
