Former Royal Porter Found Dead

Former major league catcher
Darrell Porter has been found dead in a suburban Kansas City park.

He was 50.

Porter's body was found after a driver who was passing by
reported seeing a man lying next to a car. No word on the cause of
death -- but police say there's no evidence of foul play.

Porter played for four major league teams during a 17-year
career, hitting 188 home runs. He was the Most Valuable Player of
the 1982 World Series while with the St. Louis Cardinals.

He also played for the Milwaukee Brewers, Kansas City Royals and
Texas Rangers.

In 1980, Porter spent time in drug-and-alcohol rehabilitation
and later wrote a book in which he discussed his addiction and
recovery.
