WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts defeated the Lincoln Saltdogs 16-3 on Saturday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
The Wingnuts scored 16 runs, tying a club record, for the second time in three games. Kelly Hunt finished the game with two home runs, a double, and six RBIs.
Trailing 1-0 in the second, the Wingnuts were supported by two-out base hits to take the lead. Nick Blasi singled to right field with the bases full and two down to tie the game. Josh Horn followed with a two-run single, also to right field, making it 3-1.
The Wingnuts never trailed again, and pounded out six more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Dustan Mohr drew a bases loaded walk to force across the Wingnuts' fourth run of the game. Kelly Hunt was next and drilled a grand slam home run to right-center field to break the game open at 8-1. After a walk to Joe Muich, Greg Porter doubled off of new reliever Zac Cline to left-center, driving in Muich with Wichita's ninth run of the game.
Still leading 9-1, the Wingnuts scored six more times in the sixth inning. Hunt blasted his second homer of the game, this one over the video board in left-center. Muich followed Hunt with another walk and was doubled to third by Greg Porter. Brenan Herrera lifted a sacrifice fly to center to plate Muich. The Wingnuts went on to load the bases, and scratched out another run when Josh Horn's groundball was misplayed by Lincoln third baseman Shea McFeely with two outs to score another run. Dustan Mohr followed and singled home two more runs. Already with a home run in the inning, Hunt came up and doubled off the base of the fence in left field to make it 15-1.
The Saltdogs managed two more runs off of Wichita starter Adam Cowart, both in the seventh inning. Cowart earned his first Wingnuts' victory, allowing three runs in six-plus innings of work. Ronnie Morales threw two scoreless innings, while Justin Young finished the game with a scoreless ninth.
Josh Horn leadoff the bottom of the eighth with his second home run of the season, giving him four hits in the game. Nick Blasi and Greg porter each had three base hits. All three of Porter's hits were doubles.
