Oral Roberts (23-11) scored two in the ninth and got a pair of singles in the 13th to send Wichita State (24-23) to its third-straight loss as the Shockers fell, 7-6, in extra innings Tuesday night at Eck Stadium.

The game lasted four hours and 18 minutes in WSU's longest contest of the season thus far.

Shocker starter Josh Smith set the Golden Eagles down in order in the first, striking out two of the first three hitters he faced in his first start of the season.

Tyler Grimes led off the Shocker first by getting hit by ORU starter Jerry Sullivan before stealing second and moving to third after an error. Cody Lassley, moved to second in the batting order, then doubled, bringing home Grimes to give the Shockers a 1-0 lead.

ORU got on the board with an unearned run in the third before WSU answered an inning later.

Chris O'Brien led off the Shocker fourth with an infield single before advancing to second on a failed pickoff attempt. Ryan Engrav then singled up the middle to bring home O'Brien to give WSU a 2-1 lead. Taylor Brown's sacrifice-fly brought home Engrav to extend the Shocker lead to 3-1.

Juan Martinez' three-run home run off Justin Kemp gave ORU its first lead of the game in the fifth, 4-3.

That score stood until Will Baez' RBI double in the seventh scored Cody Lassley, tying the game at 4-4. Clint McKeever gave the Shockers the lead one batter later, ripping a double down the left line to score Baez, giving WSU a 5-4 edge after seven.

Chance Sossamon struck out the side in the eighth after giving up a leadoff single, and the Shockers capitalized as Tyler Grimes reached on a two-out triple and came home after Lassley floated a single into shallow left, extending WSU's lead to 6-4.

ORU answered with a pair of unearned runs in the ninth to tie it, sending the game to extra innings knotted at 6-6.

O'Brien reached on a leadoff single to start the 12th and went to third after Mitch Caster rolled one through the left side off the ORU third baseman, giving the Shockers runners on the corners with nobody out.

Pinch-hitter Josh Rosecrans hit for pitcher Cobey Guy and was intentionally walked to load the bases after drawing a 3-1 count, bringing Bret Bascue to the plate with a chance to win the game but a ground ball turned into a double play to end the inning, sending the game to the 13th.

ORU capitalized, getting a pair of hits to score one off Dalton Banwart (0-1) in the next at-bat, and the Shockers went down in order in the bottom of the frame.

O'Brien finished 3-for-6 on the night, while Lassley had two RBI.

WSU continues its homestand Wednesday night at 7 p.m., against Kansas.
