Royals' manager Tony Pena gives
the players credit for his American League Manager of the Year
award.

The Royals posted their first winning season since 1994 and
stayed in the playoff hunt until late September.

From his home in the Domican Republic, Pena says he brought the
team confidence, trust, freedom and caring.

Pena had never managed at the big-league level when he succeeded
Tony Muser at Kansas City in May of last year.

He says he refuses to put pressure on himself and on the
players.

This season the manager and players kept repeating one motto --
"We Believe." And for the first time in years, Kansas City had
its faith rewarded.

Pena says there'll be some big expectations on the Royals next
year. He says: "I believe my ballclub and my staff will be ready
for the challenge.
