September 19 - A local school and community are mourning a team tragedy. 14 year old Emily Rocha passed away last weekend after a sudden and short illness. Now her friends from Mulvane High School are remembering the girl who helped them along the way. Emily died on Sunday, just 2 weeks after learning she had Leukemia. She managed the football team at Mulvane High where she was a freshman.
Loved ones remember Emily's dedication to school. She was on the honor roll, Student Council President and sang in the choir. Family and friends were just as important to her. Emily's parents and 3 sisters say she had an easy going attitude and was somebody who always saw the good in others. This Friday's football game at Mulvane will be especially difficult for Emily's friends. Players will wear heart shaped stickers on their helmets as the game is dedicated to Emily's memory. Emily's funeral was held Wednesday morning at the First Baptist Church in Mulvane. Her friends on the high school football team served as her pall bearers.
