K-State Unveils “The Shalee Element”

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women’s basketball program has unveiled a website called “The Shalee Element” to aid in the campaign for senior guard and Wooden Award candidate Shalee Lehning. The website can be accessed by visiting www.shaleeelement.com or by clicking on the banner ad at www.kstatesports.com.

The website, designed by Kansas State’s Creative Director for Internet Services Dave Smoller, is based on the number of elements that Lehning effects in a game. The layout is based on the periodic table of elements and includes video highlights, quotes from women’s basketball writers, broadcasters and opposing coaches, facts and figures about Lehning’s career and the latest news on Lehning’s performances.

Lehning opened her final season at Kansas State with her 14th career double-double at UTEP with 11 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds and four steals as the Wildcats defeated the Miners, 65-44.

Lehning, a 2008-09 Wooden Award preseason candidate and a 2008-09 All-Big 12 preseason first team selection, needs just eight assists to pass Megan Mahoney (2001-05; 589) to set the school record for career assists. Lehning also will continue to climb the ranks of the career rebounds (710; 9th), career steals (191; 7th) and career points (879; 34th) charts.

Following a 2008 season which saw Lehning average 11.3 points per game, 7.6 rebounds and 6.3 assists, she was recognized by a number of media outlets for her effort. Organizations to honor Lehning included: WBCA Region V All-America finalist, Kansas City Star co-Player of the Year and All-Big 12 first team and the Waco Tribune All-Big 12 second team. Lehning was also exceptional in the classroom as she was named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team and to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VII third team.

Kansas State will take on Northwestern live on the Big Ten Network tonight at 8 p.m. The Wildcats return to Manhattan to open their home schedule on Sunday, Nov. 23 against UTSA. K-State will receive their 2007-08 Big 12 Championship rings during a pregame ceremony at 1 p.m.
