ROYALS REINSTATE FIVE FROM 60-DAY D.L.
KC Releases Braun and Designates Hudson and Newman for Assignment

KANSAS CITY, MO (November 14, 2008) – The Kansas City Royals today announced that the team has reinstated right-handed pitchers Ryan Braun, Luke Hochevar, Luke Hudson and Carlos Rosa, and outfielder Shane Costa from the 60-day Disabled List. In addition, the Royals requested unconditional release waivers on Braun while designating Hudson and left-handed pitcher Josh Newman for assignment. The series of moves leaves the Royals 40-man roster at 40.

Braun, 28, missed the entire 2008 season after undergoing surgery on his right elbow in April.

Hochevar, 25, spent a majority of the season with the Royals, compiling a 6-12 record with a 5.51 ERA in 22 starts.

Hudson, 31, missed the entire 2008 season recovering from right shoulder surgery.

Rosa, 24, saw his first big league action this season, making a pair of relief appearances for the Royals. He also made a combined 19 starts for NW Arkansas (AA) and Omaha (AAA).

Costa, 26, appeared in 75 games with Omaha, hitting .295 with 10 homers and 42 RBI before wrist surgery ended his season prematurely.

Newman, 26, was claimed off waivers by the Royals on July 11 and recorded a 7.71 ERA in four relief appearances.
