Could The Wranglers Be Walking Out On Wichita?
July 11

Voters in Arkansas say yes to higher taxes to build a baseball stadium. The yes vote means the Wichita Wranglers could be leaving Wichita for Springdale, Arkansas.

It was a close vote with 2,410 voters for the stadium and 2,393 voters against it. That's a difference of just 17 votes.

If the Wranglers do leave Wichita, it would be a big hit to the community. The team started here in 1987, and recently brought in as many as 200,000 fans a year. That adds up to fans and teams who spend money in Wichita.

"There is definitely an economic impact, and it brings all these people into downtown to see the Wranglers games," said Ed Wolverton with Wichita Downtown Development.

The Wichita Sports Commission has been working with the Wranglers and hopes if they stay, renovations can be made to Lawrence Dumont Stadium to make it better for players and fans.
