LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- Thousands of Kansas students ignore coach
Mark Mangino's plea and go ahead with a profane chant when No. 16
Kansas kicked off against Colorado today.
As the chant resonated across Memorial Stadium, alumni and other
fans booed the offensive language.
The chant was first heard at Kansas in 2003 and has brought
complaints from university officials and other fans who say it's an
embarrassment. Taking their cue from an Adam Sandler movie, the
students yell, "Rip his (expletive) head off!" every time their
team kicks off.
The popular Mangino sent a video via e-mail to students Thursday
afternoon asking them to not yell the chant. It was shown on the
video board at Memorial Stadium shortly before kickoff.
But when Kansas kicked off for the first time midway through the
second quarter, students yelled the chant anyway and the alumni
section began booing loudly.

Give it aa rest. Pull this story. I can't believe how people go on and on about things. Leave it alone. It's not like you people can do anything about it anyway. You are adults. Quit arguing like a bunch of kids on a playground.

I guess our world doesn't accept respectful language anymore. Why would it? Look at all these comments on here.

Posted by: anonymous Location: Wichita on Oct 14, 2008 at 11:11 PM
Last I knew, the blogs were for people to go on and voice their own opinions on the issues. That does not make us idiots!

Posted by: Bob Location: Wichita on Oct 14, 2008 at 01:02 PM
It is a stupid chant, quit making an issue of it and it will die out. Why don't you idiots deal with real problems.

Posted by: jaketheidiot on Oct 14, 2008 at 11:53 AM
Jake - From what I've read of your comments you couldn't solve anything. You owe sarcastic an apology. OSUfan nailed you right on. Go chant with the 18 year old KU students, you act their age.

Posted by: April Location: Wichita on Oct 14, 2008 at 11:32 AM
It starts with a tiny "eff" word. There are 10 year olds walking around these days saying a cuss word everyother word and do not even care an adult is present. When I was younger I didn't dare disrespect an adult. The children these days have no respect for themselves, no respect for others. This is why---letting the "small stuff" escape without punishment. Aren't there little children at football games? ...and there it starts again..One big circle of disrespect.

OSU fan - you worry about a stupid chant and I will continue to work on preventing world hunger, teen pregnancy, drug abuse and other real issues. Seems like my moral issues are in the right place. By the way, you are stupid too :-)

You want this chant to go away, as I do? Stop drawing attention to it. It will run its course.

RE: funny - You should read OSU fan's comments. They apparently apply to you as well. If thousands of students without a sense of decency doesn't effect all of us then what does? They should ban the entire student section until it stops.

I wonder how many people that posted on this subject even watch KU Football or even have any ties to the School. If you are not directly offended by it then worry about things that directly effect you first.

RE: Jake-- Calling sarcastic stupid is a direct reflection on your intelligence and since of morality. It is parents like you that are raising a generation of kids that are completely out of touch with any common decency. Yeah, write off their inapropriate behavior as they have other more important things to worry about. If you think a generation of citizens that have no respect not a REAL problem then you are part of the problem. The way you talk down to a person who obviousily knows right from wrong tells me allot about what you are made of. Wrong is wrong, and right is right.

I sent an email to the KU athletic dept. about my thoughts to this issue. I received a very nice response back from the Associate Athletic Director telling me that "we and many well meaning students will continue to attempt to convince the students to end this chant." Amen to the mom in Arkansas City!!

I was always told that the use of profanity in everyday language does nothing but prove that a person is not intelligent enough to use a real vocabulary. Hmmm....may there is some truth in that. I understand the hype of the game and all....but have some come courtesy. And a little self restraint. If you are old enough to attend college...you should be old enough to know the difference between basic right and wrong. And trust me - if that was my kid, I'd be ashamed of their actions and they'd sure be knowin' it - loud and clear. Especially if they were there on my dime.

Go to Hutch News website & listen to dear Coach Dreilings audiotape if you really want to talk about vulgar.....and this is a grown man who is supposed to be a role model!!!!! Why shouldn't kids in college talk that way when we've got high school coaches that are doin' a lot worse & it's ok b/c he's coaching a winning team?????

Re: Jake......I couldn't agree w/you more! funny thing is, most of the ppl that are so against it assume their sweet little children would never do such a thing. They're dead wrong. We'll just sit back & laugh cuz' we know better! lol

Posted by: Explicit Word on Oct 13, 2008 at 04:16 PM
I trust that with their high dollar education they can brainstorm another witty chant.

Posted by: Jake Location: Wichita on Oct 13, 2008 at 12:40 PM
RE: Sarcastic - - No, my kid is not in a Kansas College, not that it is really any of your business. The point is with all the problems with kids these day, they want to worry about the eff word. Get over it. Lets take on real problems. The student who does the chant on Saturday could be the physician who treats you tomorrow, as long as he/she knows his/her business, who cares what he/she said at a football game in their college years. By the way who said normal was such great thing? Why set your achievements so low. You are not sarcastic, you are just stupid.

Posted by: sarcastic Location: wichita on Oct 13, 2008 at 10:38 AM
Yeah Jake let's just overlook the tiny problem of disrespect and the hell with what normal people think. It's your kid so it's okay, right? They're just being kids, right? No manners, no respect, no decency, no problem! It's just an expensive college with boorish students like so many others. Thank God they use my money to get educated. I'm so proud. I feel sorry for the kids who try hard and do the right things. They are the ones who deserve accolades. But don't mind me. I'm just normal.

KU is an excelent school, so the university sould not be looked down on because of a few roudy kids.

Posted by: Wanda Location: Wichita on Oct 12, 2008 at 07:00 PM
Wow! I know there are some wonderful students at KU. I think it is time the decent people stood up and stopped the ones that are making their school look bad. Free speech is one thing and trash is another. Have more dignity than that! You may think it is funny, but you just look like fools!!!

Posted by: Duke Fan on Oct 12, 2008 at 06:11 PM
Typical KU behavior...

Posted by: Me Location: Here on Oct 12, 2008 at 10:56 AM
Not only do KU athletes need parole officers, but their fans need to have their mouths washed out with soap. Typical.

Posted by: M Location: Wichita on Oct 12, 2008 at 12:15 AM
What a disgrace! The fans obviously have no respect for the coach; players; or anyone else.

Posted by: David Location: Wichita on Oct 11, 2008 at 08:55 PM
I am a KU fan. I think the students should at least be smart enough to think up something on their own- not steal it from a 2nd rate movie. There are lots of little kids at the games who don't need to hear that kind of *&*(*&W$) language

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 11, 2008 at 07:45 PM
god bless America where we can say whatever the (expletive) we want

Posted by: Jake Location: Wichita on Oct 11, 2008 at 03:16 PM
They are kids, they are supposed to be stupid. With the problems of date rape, date violence, underage drinking and drug abuse, a stupid chant is the least of their worries.
