Kansas City Royals outfielder Mitch Maier has
been placed on the disabled list, less than 24 hours after being
hit in the face with a pitch.

Maier suffered multiple fractures below his right eye when he was drilled by Indians lefty Zach Johnson. His right eye was swollen shut and his nose was still bleeding when he walked into the clubhouse today.

Maier played for the Wichita Wranglers in the 2005-2007 seasons.
