KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Rick Ankiel hit a two-run home run to
help rookie Mitchell Boggs remain unbeaten and the St. Louis
Cardinals beat Kansas City 5-1 on Saturday night, snapping the
Royals' six-game winning streak.
Boggs (3-0) worked out of a jam in the first inning against what
has been one of the hottest teams in the majors and allowed only
four hits and one run in six innings. The Cardinals, who beat the
Royals for the first time in five games, are 4-0 in the six starts
the 24-year-old right-hander has made since being called up on June
6 from Triple-A Memphis. He walked four and struck out six.
Ankiel connected off Kyle Davies for a 407-foot shot that put
the Cardinals on top 4-0 in the sixth before a sellout crowd of
37,537, the biggest of the year in Kansas City. It was the 15th
home run for the converted pitcher, who has hit in nine of his last
10 games.
