Nebraska shuts out Wichita State

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Nebraska pitchers Erik Bird and Zach Herr
combined for a 3-0 shutout of fifth-ranked Wichita State today.
The ninth-ranked Cornhuskers (26-6-1) scored twice in the first
from a series of one-out singles off Shockers pitcher Tim Kelley.
Jake Mort was hit by a pitch from Logan Hoch in the eighth and
took a base. He stole second, then scored when second baseman
Taylor Brown erred on a grounder hit by Jake Opitz.
Bird (2-1) earned the win with three hits in 6.2 innings.
Kelley (4-2) took the loss, allowing two runs, both earned, on
six hits in five innings.
The Shockers (27-6) were last shut out by UC Irvine in the
opening game of the NCAA Super Regional series last season.
