DETROIT (AP) -- Brian Bannister allowed two singles over seven
innings of his 2008 debut and combined with two relievers on a
three-hit shutout as Kansas City blanked the Tigers 4-0 in Detroit.
The Royals improve to 2-and-0 for just the second time in 28
years. Kansas City won its first nine games in 2003 en route to its
only winning season since 1993.
Jose Guillen's (gee-EHNZ') two-out double in the sixth off
starter-and-loser Kenny Rogers snapped a scoreless tie. Billy
Butler chased Guillen home with a double of his own.
Rogers is now 0-and-5 in nine starts since he beat Cleveland on
July 4th. He allowed two runs and five hits in six innings.
Detroit's heralded offense is hitting .191 with 19 strikeouts in
two games and has scored four runs in 20 innings.
