Royals send nine to Triple-A Omaha to set Opening Day roster

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Kansas City Royals set their Opening
Day roster by sending nine players to Triple-A Omaha.
First baseman Ryan Shealy, outfielder Mitch Maier, right-hander
Joel Peralta and left-hander Neal Musser were optioned to Omaha.
Right-handers Brandon Duckworth, Brad Salmon and Hideo Nomo,
along with infielders Angel Berroa and Jason Smith -- all
non-roster invitees to spring training -- were assigned to Omaha.
Nomo, who hasn't pitched in the majors since 2005, will report
to Kansas City's minor league facility in Surprise, Arizona, to
start rehabilitation on a strained right groin.
The Royals also are expected to place right-hander Luke Hudson
on the 15-day disabled list to get their roster to 25 by today's
deadline. He's recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
