EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- Shy Ely scored 18 points, including a
key 3-pointer in the second half, as Evansville surged to a 64-56
victory over Wichita State.
The Purple Aces (7-15, 2-10 MVC) trailed 31-20 at the break, but
went on a 24-13 run capped by a Jason Holsinger 3-pointer to tie
the score at 44-44 with 9:28 left.
Evansville took a 4-point lead on free throws before Ely nailed
a 3-pointer to stretch the lead to seven. A pair of layups by Nate
Garner and a 3-pointer by Holsinger made the margin 14, and the
Shockers got no closer than six the rest of the way.
Holsinger finished with 14 points and four assists.
Phillip Thomasson had 10 points for the Shockers (9-14, 2-10),
who outrebounded Evansville 36-31 and outscored the Purple Aces in
the paint 16-12.
