LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- The Kansas Jayhawks are off to a 17-0
start, and fans are starting to talk about a perfect season.
Kansas coach Bill Self insists the players aren't talking about
a perfect record. He says the team is just trying to get better
every day.
The Jayhawks are at Missouri tomorrow, and the Tigers are a
traditional stumbling block for some of the best Kansas teams.
If the Jayhawks can beat Missouri and then win their next two at
home against Iowa State and Nebraska, they would be 20-0 going in
to Bramlage Coliseum to take on Kansas State.
That would be just two wins short of the school-record 22-0
start by Roy Williams' 1996-97 team -- which then lost at Missouri.
----
Going into this weekend, the Number 3 Jayhawks and Williams'
Number 1 North Carolina (18-0) and Number 2 Memphis (16-0) are the
only unbeatens.
