Royals avoid arbitration with several players

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Kansas City Royals avoided
arbitration and reached agreement today with utilityman Ross Gload,
catcher John Buck and left-hander Jorge De La Rosa.
Gload hit .288 with seven homers and 51 RBIs last season. He
will make 1.3 million dollars this year and 1.9 million in 2009.
The club holds an option for 2010.
Buck will make 2.2 million dollars after hitting a team-leading
18 homers last year.
De La Rosa agreed to just over 1 million dollars for 2008 after
going 8-12 with a 5.82 ERA last year. He also can earn bonuses for
making 24 or more starts.
The Royals also exchanged arbitration numbers with infielder
Esteban German (hehr-MAHN'), outfielder Mark Teahen and
right-hander Zack Greinke.
Teahen is asking for 2.9 million dollars and Kansas City is
offering 1.9 million. He hit .285 with seven homers and 60 RBIs
last season.
Greinke requested 1.8 million dollars and was offered 1.15
million. He went 7-7 with a 3.69 ERA last year.
German requested 1.2 million in arbitration and Kansas City is
offering $837,500.
