MIAMI (AP) -- Eighth-ranked Kansas arrived in sunny Florida today
for their January 3rd Orange Bowl game against Number 5 Virginia
Tech.
The 11-1 Jayhawks were greeted by fire trucks spraying water on
their airplane when they arrived.
Kansas will be playing in its first January bowl game since
1969.
The 11 wins are a school record for Kansas, which was ranked as
high as Number 2 by all four major polls before losing to Missouri.
Kansas has won 14 of its last 16 games dating back to last year.
Kansas traveled with only 33 players on a flight from Forbes
Field in Topeka. The rest of the Jayhawks are flying to Miami on
their own after going home for the holidays.
Virginia Tech (11-2) earned a spot in the Orange Bowl after
beating Boston College in the ACC Championship game.
