The Jayhawks left Kansas and their hometowns on Thursday to fly to Miami for the Orange Bowl. As they prep for game with Virginia Tech, the governors of their respective states made a friendly wager.
If V-Tech loses, Governor Timothy Kaine will send Governor Kathleen Sebelius a Virginia ham. If Tech wins, Governor Sebelius will send Governor Kaine a delicious assortment of Kansas beef.
"The Kansas Jayhawks have proven themselves to be outstanding students and incredible athletes. Pairing that depth of talent with their nationally acclaimed coach is a winning combination. Coach Mangino and his team have made our state very proud and I look forward to cheering them on," said Sebelius.
"I don't want to jinx them, but I think Tech's defense is going to handle KU pretty easily," Governor Kaine said. "Tech's defense is more than KU has seen."
The Orange Bowl is Saturday, January 3.
