KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Kansas City Royals say they won't
offer outfielder Emil Brown a contract for next season.
Brown led Kansas City in RBIs the past three seasons, but the
Royals signed power-hitting outfielder Jose Guillen to a 36 million
dollar, three-year contract earlier this month.
The announcement came just hours ahead of the deadline for
making such a decision.
Brown hit .257 last season, with six home runs and a team-best
62 RBIs in 113 games.
With 86 RBIs in 2005 and 81 in 2006, Brown is the only Royals
player other than Carlos Beltran to lead the team in RBIs for three
consecutive seasons.
Brown signed a one-year contract worth more than 3 million
dollars before last season.
