Wichita Coaching Legend Passes Away

A man considered a legend in Wichita coaching circles has passed away.

Ed Kriwiel died this morning at age 81. The news was announced to Kapaun students shortly after his death.

Kriwiel won 297 games as a high school football coach. His teams had just two losing seasons in 36 years.

He coached at Wichita West from 1953 to 1966 and also coached at Kapaun Mount Carmel from 1969 to 1990.

Kriewiel is a member of the Kansas Sports Hall of fame, the Wichita State sports hall of fame, and the Kansas Golf hall of fame.
