Japanese reliever agrees to deal with Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Japanese relief pitcher Yasuhiko Yabuta
has agreed to a 6 million dollar, two-year contract with the Kansas
City Royals.
The 34-year-old right-hander will compete for a spot as the
team's primary setup man.
Yabuta spent 12 seasons with the Japanese Pacific League's Chiba
Lotte Marines. That team is managed by Bobby Valentine.
Yabuta gets 2.5 million dollars next season and 3 million in
2009. The Royals have a 4 million dollar option for 2010 with a
$500,000 buyout. Yabuta can also earn performance bonuses.
