Texas A&M University has
introduced former Green Bay Packers coach Mike Sherman as the
Aggies new football coach.

A&M confirmed Sherman's hiring today, three days after Dennis
Franchione resigned.

The 52-year-old coach has been an assistant head coach for
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak for two seasons. Kubiak's a
former Aggies quarterback.

Sherman also has ties to A&M. He was the Aggies offensive line
coach from 1989 through 1993 and 1995 through 1996 under R.C
Slocum. Kubiak was A&M's running backs coach in 1992 and '93.

Franchione took a contract buyout and stepped down Friday, less
than an hour after the Aggies beat Texas 38-30. Defensive
coordinator Gary Darnell was named interim coach Saturday for the
Aggies for their bowl game. A&M's expecting an invitation Sunday.
