Joe Torre has rejected an offer to return as manager of the New York Yankees.
Yankees president Randy Levine announced in a teleconference that Torre has rejected a 5-million-dollar, one-year contract.
Earlier this month, Yankees owner George Steinbrenner told a New Jersey newspaper that it was unlikely Torre would be asked back if he
didn't lead the Yanks out of the first round of the playoffs. They
lost the best-of-five American League Division Series to Cleveland
in four games.
