Garrett Willis shot a 7-under 64 and held a one-stroke lead as the first round of The Heritage wrapped up Friday morning.
A rain delay of more than 2 hours on Thursday forced 18 golfers back to the course to finish the opening round at Hilton Head Island, S.C.. Willis remained a shot ahead of Arjun Atwal, Matt Bettencourt, Chad Campbell and Tim Herron at 65. Mark Wilson, Camilo Villegas and 2009 Heritage winner Brian Gay were next at 66.
Third-ranked Luke Donald, the highest ranked player in the field, led a group of seven at 67. Donald can take over the top spot from Martin Kaymer with a victory at Harbour Town Golf Links.
Defending champion Jim Furyk, U.S. Open winner Graeme McDowell and defending Heritage champ Jim Furyk were all at 3-under 68.
