"We are thrilled to have a player of Woody Austin's stature in this year's field," said Turner. "Over the years he has enhanced Wichita's reputation to professional golf and the entire state of Kansas. We look forward to having Woody compete at Crestview next week against all the terrifiic players on the Nationwide Tour."
Austin is no stranger to Wichita. He currently resides in Derby, KS and has participated in the Wichita Open three times - in 1990, 1994, and 1998.
The 47-year-old has been a full time member of the PGA TOUR every year since 1995 with the exception of 1998, collecting three wins and more than $15 million in earnings. In 2007, he was a member of the victorious U.S. Presidents Cup team in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Austin played the Nationwide Tour full time in 1994 and 1998, recording three runners-up and three third-place finishes.
Thus far in 2011, Austin has played in seven PGA TOUR events and two Nationwide Tour events, with his best finish coming at the Transitions Championship on the PGA TOUR where he tied for T37. In 2010, he finished T7 at the Puerto Rico Open, T4 at The Greenbrier Classic and finished T10 at the Turning Stone Resort Championship posting four rounds in the 60s for his first back-to-back top 10 finishes since 2008.
Another addition to this year's field is 2010 Wichita State University graduate Dustin Garza. Originally from McAllen, Texas, Garza became a two-time All-American at WSU, winning 12 college titles and recently became a rookie on the Nationwide Tour. Garza earned his status via the Qualifying School
