Play has resumed at the British Open after being suspended for about an hour because of stiff winds that made conditions unplayable.

Tournament officials halted play at 2:40 p.m. local time Friday, shortly after Tiger Woods teed off. Even though the day turned sunny, gusts were so severe they were causing balls to wobble on the greens.

The suspension marked another turn in a wild day of weather at the Old Course. It went back and forth between heavy rains and bursts of sunshine. Play carried on through the inclement weather, but finally the wind brought it to a halt.
