With new head coach Tyler Ryan, Trinity Academy football hopes to complete another winning season in the third year of the program. Led by two of the area’s top players, Morgan Burns and Austin Kessinger, Trinity won five out of nine games in 2009.
Burns and Kessinger were both named to first-team all-league in 2009 and were Trinity’s stat leaders on both offense and defense. Burns and Kessinger are essential parts of the strong backfield Ryan believes is a strength of their 2010 team. Ryan also feels that excellent participation in their summer programs shows promise for the future.
Ryan brings five years of coaching experience to his first head coaching job at Trinity. A former line coach at Holton, Ryan will make improvement of the team’s inexperienced line a top priority.
Although Trinity loses quarterback Toby Kriwiel and all-league kicker Michael Brewer, quarterback Scott Kempin, Wilson Alexander and sophomores D.J. Green and Malachi Newman will boost the offense. Kempin logged the third largest number of all-purpose yards last season behind Burns and Kessinger.
Trinity opens their 2010 season with new opponent Douglass, then meets return opponent Bluestem, when Trinity hopes to repeat their 51-6 win from last year. Similarly they will meet Medicine Lodge (30-14 W) and Independent (42-7 W) in the first half of the season before embarking against a new district of Andale, Maize South and Cheney.
