Wichita Collegiate will try to defend its state football title without its top signal caller.
Starting quarterback Markus Phox broke his collarbone in Friday's win over Maize South. Collegiate Head Coach Bill Messamore said Phox does not need surgery, but will miss the remainder of the season.
Phox will be ready for the start of basketball season. The Spartans are also defending state champs in hoops.
